Hum Kya Sikhayenge: Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies

Civic sense, or rather the lack of it, is a topic that has been widely discussed and argued in India. It is something we've all learnt in school; we all agree on the need to be a civic society, but when it comes to our actions, we take the easy road of convenience.

The play "Hum Kya Sikhayenge" deals with the many routine instances where we show this lethargy of convenience, and console ourselves saying it is the government and its laws which are at fault. We say we are progressing, but as a society, are we really bettering ourselves? Be it littering, road rage, vandalizing public property or eve-teasing, the dearth of civic sense shows up in each of our actions, despite the fact that we know what is right and what is wrong. It is this irony that makes us ask, "Hum kya sikhayenge?"

Backed by some astonishing facts and figures, the play highlighted the importance and the need for self governance to overcome this problem. It ends raising hope in its audience, showcasing how an individual, standing alone, too, can initiate the process of change.
